CRPF: Central Reserve Police Force

CRPF stands for Central Reserve Police Force ( CRPF). It is a paramilitary police force which is the largest Central Armed Police Force in India. CRPF works under the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Governmentof India. Its primary mission is to aid the union and state governmentsin maintaining law and order within their respective territories. It is headquartered in New Delhi, India. India's government India has established the CRPR academy to educate students who want to join the CRPF. As of July 2017, Sh Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar is the Director General of CRPF.

Brief History ( crpf long form)

  • The name CRPF is derived in reference to"the" Crown Representative's Police (CRP) which was founded on the 27th July 1939 in order to guard the British residents of the secluded states of India.
  • In 1949, as part of the CRPF Act in 1949, the CRP was renamed CRPF.
  • On October 21, 1959, a small CRPF Patrol was attacked the Chinese soldiers. Ten of the 20 CRPF troops sacrificedtheir lives to defend the country. In commemoration of the martyrdom of these soldiers, the date of October 21 is remembered as the Police CommemorationDay.
  • In the 1960s, most of the state police battalions joined with CRPF.
  • Until 1965, CRPF was guarding the border between Pakistan and India. Later, the BSF had been deployed in the region to guard the border.
  • It played a crucial role in curbing militant activities in Punjab in the 1980s, and also in fighting against insurgencies within Tripura during 1990s.
  • In 1992, a special section from CRPF (Rapid Action Force) was established by converting 10 unattached battalions of CRPF to respond to riots.
  • in 1986 the very first Mahila Battalion in CRPF, the 88(M) Bn, was formed to deal with women's disturbances.
  • In the 2001 Indian Parliamentattack, CRPF killed all the five terrorists involved in the attack. The following year, it was designated as the largest security organization of India.
  • in 2008 Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) was established as one of the specialties of CRPF was established to counter an naxal operation.
