The Central Reserve Police Force (crpf long form) is the country's largest Central Armed Police Force. It operates under the authority that is the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) of the Government of India. The CRPF's primary role lies in aiding the States and Union Territories in their police work in order to protect law and order , and to combat insurgency. It was established under the name of the Crown Representative's Police on 27 July 1939. After Indian Independence, it was renamed an official part of the Central Reserve Police Force on the enactment of CRPF Act on 28 December 1949.

Apart from law and order as well as counter-insurgency functions and counter-insurgency, the CRPF has played a large role within india's generalelections. This is particularly true for the once-proud state of Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar and in the North East, with the presence of unrest and violent conflict. In the elections for Parliament in September 1999 the CRPF played a key role in the security arrangements. Recently, CRPF contingents are also being deployed in UN missions.

With 246 battalions as well as various establishments and other establishments, the CRPF is thought to be India's largest centrally armed police force. It has a sanctioned strength of more than 300,000 officers as of 2019. [4]

Organizational Set-up of the Force

The headquarters of the Force Hqrs Central Reserve Police Force is located at Block No. 1, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. It is managed by the Director General, who is supported by three Addl. Directors General , 9 Inspectors General of Police, a Financial Adviser and Director (Medical). Structure is as given below :

Directorate General

Administration

The Administration Directorate is functioning under the overall supervision of lG (Adm). They are assisted by DIG (Adm) & DIG (Welfare).

Personnel

The Personnel Directorate is functioning under the supervision by lG (Pers). He is supported with the help of DIG (Pers), DIG (CR and Vig), DIG (Org), DIG (Estt) and Comdt(Estt).

Training

The Training Directorate is working under the direction of IG(Training). The Directorate is supported by DIG (Training-l), DIG (Training-ll) and DIG(Sports).

Operations

The Operations Directorate is functioning under the direction of IG (OPS). He is supported through DIG (OPS-I) in addition to DIG (OPS-II).

Provisioning

The Provisioning Directorate is under the direction from IG (Provisioning). He is assisted through DIG (Prov), DIG (Mod & Ord), DIG(MT), Comdt. (Mod) and Asstt. Director (Prov).

Communication

IG(Communication) is in charge of Communications is the IG responsible Communication Dte. He is assisted with DIG (Eqpt ), DIG (Tech) and DIG (IT) .

Intelligence

The Intelligence Directorate is functioning under the overall supervision by IG (Intelligence). He is assisted by DIG (MAC),Commandant(Int) and PRO.

Establishment

The Establishment branch is functioning under the direct supervision of IG(Estt.). The IG(Estt.) is supported through DIG(Law) along with DIG (Rectt).

Finance

The Finance Branch and Pay is functioning under the Direct Supervision by the FA. It is co-ordinated by Dy.FA.

Medical

The Medical Branch is functioning under the overall supervision of IG Director (Medical). They are assisted by 2 Dy. Director (Medical)
